This is a restored stonebuilt farmhouse which, according to local tradition, was built some 300 years ago.
Bois de Ban is situated on a ridge with views to the East extending as far as Mont Blanc which is some 85 miles distant as the crow flies with, in between, the succession of North-South folds of the Jura mountains culminating in the Crêt de la Neige at 6000 ft. Bois de Ban is at 2000ft.
Accommodation: For 12 very comfortably but there are beds for 15.
Ground floor. The kitchen /dining room is approximately 32ft x 16ft with double sink and dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, microwave oven, mixed gas and electric hob with an electric oven underneath. A long elm-oak refectory table will seat twelve people while a further round one will seat six more. The sitting room is 32ftx20ft.
At the North end of the house is a utility room with washing machine, sink and a freezer. There is a shower room with basin and WC and also a large workshop. Firewood for a week’s summer use when you arrive.
First Floor:
There are six bedrooms, three of which have double beds and there are seven single beds as well which are made to be put together to make very large doubles if required. There is a bathroom off the central landing which leads via another mezzanine to the next floor.
Second Floor:
This includes a games room 20ftx25ft with ping pong table and dart board, a window looking South and two Velux roof windows. The central landing has two more beds and leads to the seventh bedroom with bathroom, WC and basin next to it.
Outside:
We have six acres sloping down to the East with the house at the highest point. There is about an acre of lawns, 2 acres of pasture grazed by sheep and 3 acres of woodland. We stay in a chalet about 100 yards from the main house so that we are on hand to deal with problems or supply information.
Swimming:
There is a circular in ground swimming pool 6ft deep and 18 ft in diameter with a Lacron 16” filtration plant which ensures crystal clear water at all times. A flat area beyond the pool has a badminton court. Gates to the pool area can be kept closed if you have small children. In use May 30-Sept 15.

To the West rise woods with superb walks in shady glades along unfrequented forest tracks. The nearest farmhouse is 150 yards distant. There are supermarkets and banks in St Amour 12 miles away while there is a bakery and cheesemaker in the village of Gigny 4 miles away . For watersports there is the Lac de Vouglans 18 miles away with sailing, windsurfing and quiet sandy beaches with a typical water temperature in mid summer of 25°C. If you are an amateur astronomer, we enjoy ideal conditions with a total absence of light pollution.
We are 417 miles South East of Calais, a journey which takes from 6 to 10 hours depending on the route chosen and the driver. The nearest airport is Geneva 70 miles away. For speed, take the A26 Calais-Reims-Troyes- then A 5 A 31 Dijon then A39 exiting at Junction 9 Le Miroir. Then take D972 for 3 miles then left on the D311 to Cousance which is on the Western edge of the Jura escarpment. Turn left in the main street, go North for half a mile and take the D2 Orgelet going East, over a bridge and to Cuisia.(traffic bumps !) 3 miles more and turn right onto C3, 1 mile more and fork left onto C1 to Graveleuse. Continue 2 miles to Champagne and fork left after 300m and 1 more mile uphill to Bois de Ban. The road stops at the house. Cousance to Bois de Ban about 8 miles. |
